Kay Adams Young

<<< Return to Memory Wall

Kay Young, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many passed away peacefully on August 21, 2020. She was surrounded by her loving family and will be missed dearly.

Kay was born in Dallas, Texas on October 15, 1944 to parents Oliver “Trotter” and Natalie Adams. Kay was the first born, and was the love of her parent’s life. As a child, her father’s job with Sun Oil Company took the family from Dallas to Midland and finally to Corpus Christi. It is in Corpus Christi where Kay spent her pre-teen and teenaged years. She was frequently voted “Cutest” girl and “Class Favorite”. Kay graduated from W.B. Ray High School in 1963 and attended Del Mar College where she earned an Associates Degree. Shortly thereafter, Kay moved back to Dallas with her young family. Once the kids were a bit older, Kay went to work for Sun Oil Company (later Oryx) and where she ran the Payroll and Accounting department. While Kay was working at Sun she met the love of her life, Ed Young. They married in 1990 and found their dream home in the Lakewood area of Dallas where they lived for many years.

She had a passion for gardening and once retired became a Master Gardener. She was a garden savant and could tell you the latin name of any plant in her own garden and then some. She also loved scuba diving, snow skiing, antiquing, estate sales and family trips. In addition, she had a passion for baking and even won contests with some of her favorite desserts. Her mean margaritas were also award-winning, at least to her friends and family.

She was always the “cool” and “fun” mom, and loved her children and grandchildren fiercely. She was always their biggest cheerleader and supporter.

Kay was kind-hearted and truly the most beautiful woman, inside and out. Everyone that met her wanted to know her better and be her friend.

She is survived by her husband Ed Young, her children Nancy Love, Jennifer Love and Michael Love as well as siblings Dick Adams, Pat Adams Jones, Kelly Adams and grandchildren Will Love, Abbey Love and Piper Love.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations in Kay’s name to the Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation.
