Sherry Jacobson

<<< Return to Memory Wall

Sherry (Kershnar) Jacobson, born February 12, 1941, passed away May 6, 2020 after a long illness. Born in Brooklyn, NY, and having resided in Livingston, NJ and Nanuet, NY, she retired and lived the past 21 years in the Saddlebrooke Community in Tucson, AZ. She was graduated from the Baruch School of City College and then worked as an accountant at Apfel & Englander. After her kids were in school, she managed the U.S. office of Fildan Accessories, while also working summers at Camps Wahconah-Potomac and Pontiac. Throughout her life, she enjoyed eating chocolate, baking, crocheting, rooting for the NY Rangers and NY Mets, seeing Broadway shows, as well as attending Harry Belafonte and Johnny Mathis concerts. In her retirement, she spent time walking with friends, playing tennis, square dancing, playing bridge and attending hors d’oeuvres parties. But most of all she adored spending time with her family and friends. She was a loving wife to her husband Jake, a wonderful mom to her children (Alyse, Pam, Steven, Lara, and Mark) as well as a doting MeMa to her grandsons (Max and Ben). She was predeceased by her parents Morton and Sally Kershnar and her sister-in-law Sue Kershnar. She is survived by her husband Louis Martin aka Jake Jacobson; her children Alyse (Mark), Pam, Steven (Lara); her grandsons Max and Ben; as well as her siblings Mel, Rivka, Harris (Tessa).

I have such fond memories of meeting Sherry in 1958 at Freshmen Camp and spending the next four years at The Baruch School as Wright ‘62. She will live in our memories. I know you will all be there for each other. Your loss is shared by all who loved her

Pam and the Jacobson family,
I am so sorry for your loss. My deepest condolences during these difficult times. I loved learning more about Sherry, her hobbies and her accomplishments. I now know where Pam must get her love of baking. Keep the memories you have made together as a family close to your hearts. You are in my thoughts.

Memories- Sherry always welcomed us at the family home in Nanuet for Passover or Roshashana dinner. Homemade desserts were always the best! Jake would hold the matzah high in hopes for a tall mate for the girls. The holidays were always filled with warmth and Sherry's big smile having the family together. Homemade blankets with her hand-sewn label for both boys were of course gifts made with love as our family grew. Sherry would not miss an important family event showing her high value for family, and would always acknowledge everything with a card and handwritten note. The boys remember Sherry teaching them how to play blackjack at Grandma Sally's big birthday, which continues to be a favorite pastime on vacations. Mom and Mel always enjoyed their visit on the ride to or from California- dinner and a movie out, walks and catching up. Sherry made it a priority to see Mom on her visit to New York and spend time with her while she was in the hospital even though it was out of the way because that's who she was. Jake selflessly took amazing care of Sherry always. Sherry and Jake's strong family values, generosity and care is reflected in the 3 wonderful children they raised together. We will forever miss Sherry but will cherish her smile and caring and thoughtful way! xo Lisa Scott Josh and Justin

Friends since the summer of 1958, where we met at Leadership camp prior to attending Baruch College. Forming a house plan, Wright '62, our friendship grew. Sherry was a wonderful person, a loving friend.......I cherish our time and our memories.
I send love to the family.

...I can just see Sherry walking up front from the back of the camp office, smiling at me whenever I came to visit my mother - who was usually in a purple stained apron enmeshed in the lost art of mimeographing - I'm pretty sure Sherry preferred the bookkeeping. I also clearly remember Sherry, Jake, Al and Connie, and my parents together all those many summer evenings with more smiles and endless laughs. Camp was a magical time. We can reflect now and consider ourselves very lucky to have had our parents there, even when we especially felt left out on Visiting Day as bratty staff children. I imagine your shared camp moments with them are as special as ours and particularly these days, we can feel how much family time is a gift. I hope you find comfort in all the wonderful memories and stories of Sherry. I see her smiling and I hear her laugh. My deepest sympathy. Love, Judy

My sincere sympathy to the Jacobson family. I remember the cookies Sherry would mail me as I loved them. I loved the breakfasts we would have together with our group when Jake was with the CPA firm and had to come for business meetings. Sherry's smile lit up the restaurant. The greatest gift Sherry gave me was a red, white and blue blanket when my grandson was born and I carried him in it to the Flag Day parade in Saratoga Springs (he is now 22). I always felt as if I knew all of you children personally because we always shared about our families. I got Sherry an appointment with my hairdresser in Saratoga Springs when Steven and Lara were married. Jake, you were a caring and loving husband and we will all miss Sherry. My prayers are with you all!
