Born October 19, 1931 in Swampscott, MA, Patricia “Pat” Allen was raised in Swampscott, MA and Schenectady, NY. As a youth, she was active in church youth groups and loved ice skating and skiing.
Syracuse University is Pat’s alma mater, where she graduated in 1954 with a B.S. degree in Home Economics and met and married her husband, Ralph Allen. Ralph and Pat’s family was blessed with four children (Brian, Ralph Jr., Linda, Lisa), three grandchildren (Nick, Laura, Sandy) and five great grandchildren (Braden, Samantha, Nicholas, Caleb, Ethan).
In addition to her career as a full-time homemaker, wife and mother, Pat was an active member of the Methodist Church and Ladies Auxiliary at the Jr. Chamber of Commerce in Berea, OH. She was active in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, serving as both a Den Mother and Girl Scout Cookie Chairperson. Pat also participated actively in Alpha Omega Pi alumnae association. After relocating to Houston, TX, Pat’s professional career included positions at Craig’s department store as a sales associate, Crum & Foster Insurance Company as a claims adjustor, Aetna as a worker’s compensation claims specialist and a work-from-home Avon sales representative. Her community activities included being an active member at Sugar Land First United Methodist Church, including the Naomi Circle and Bible Study. Pat also served as the Seniors Representative on the YMCA Board of Directors.
Pat’s numerous interests include bowling, rug hooking, sewing, gardening and especially bridge, being a true bridge enthusiast and member of multiple bridge clubs. She had a passion for music and playing piano. Pat enjoyed professional football and baseball, including the Boston Red Sox. She loved to travel, including memorable family vacations to both Norris Dam in Tennessee and Upper Peninsula of Michigan, western Canada (Lake Louise/ Vancouver/Alberta/Banff), a spectacular Alaskan cruise with Ralph, multiple cruises with friends and several international choir trips to Poland/Russia, Germany/Italy and France/Switzerland.
