Hugh Reed Burns

Hugh Reed Burns, age 83, lived in West Chester, Ohio for over 45 years. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in August 2015 and later died of esophageal cancer on April 24, 2016.

Hugh Reed Burns was born in Brooklyn, NY, graduated from Gettysburg College, and spent most of his adult life living in West Chester, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy and father Lloyd, and his older brother Lloyd Spencer Burns. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Suzanne, daughter Kristine Burns (Homestead, FL), son Hugh Spencer Burns (Cincinnati, OH), and two grandchildren—Liam and Livya Burns Leider (Homestead, FL). He is also survived by his sister Caroline Burke (Loudon, TN).

Burns worked at Ft. Hamilton-Hughes Hospital as Director of Materials Management for over 30 years prior to his retirement. He and his wife moved to Homestead, FL in 2014 to be closer to their grandchildren. An avid traveler, he and his wife went to Africa, New Zealand, many parts of Europe, and throughout the United States over the past 30 years.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 11:00 am at West Chester Presbyterian Church, 8930 Cincinnati-Dayton Rd., West Chester, Oh. 45069.
