Laketch Mekuria

Laketch Assaye Mekuria was born in Debre Markos, Gojam province (Ethiopia) on August 27, 1949 to the late Qegnazmach Assaye Mitike and Woizero Debritu Kassa. She completed her high school education at the Negus Tekle Haimanot School. Laketch then attended and graduated from the Princess Tsehay School of Nursing in Addis Ababa, where she earned a diploma in nursing.

She worked several years as a Registered Nurse at the Ethio-Swedish Pediatric Clinic at the Tikur Anbessa Hospital.

After moving to the United States, Laketch continued to work in the healthcare field where she held several nursing positions in Georgetown, South Carolina.

Laketch immensely enjoyed traveling; which she was able to do with her husband on many occasions. After retiring, she moved to Atlanta, Georgia where she spent time with her family including her precious grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years Dr. Yilma Mekuria, two sons; Agere Mekuria (Blen) and Dagninet Mekuria (Jackie). She also leaves behind three wonderful grandchildren Liya, Dagmawi, and Nolawit.

The Mekuria family thanks everyone for their comforting words and genuine acts of kindness in this difficult time.
