Bridget Dowling

<<< Return to Memory Wall

Bridget “Bridie” Theresa Dowling, nee O’Malley, was born in county Galway, Ireland, on May 22, 1933. She peacefully returned to the Lord on September 6, 2021 at home, while surrounded by her close family and beloved husband of over 57 years, Jimmy.

Bridie enjoyed spending time with her children and could always be found cheering on her grandchildren at their sporting events. She almost never missed a daily mass and could be seen dancing around the kitchen with her husband to Irish music. She spent many weekends at Gaelic park watching football and hurling.

She is the loving mother to Patrick (Gina), James (Geri), Maureen, and Gerry (Noreen). Bridie leaves behind her seven grandchildren who she loved dearly: Bridget, Eileen (Dylan), Katy (Billy), Aidan, Trevor, Ciaran and Kathleen. Bridie is preceded by her brothers Patrick (Rosemary), Coleman (Joyce), Barney and Martin. She is survived by her sisters Mary (Jack) and Anne (John) and many nieces and nephews.

Bridie brought love and joy to so many lives. She will be truly missed.

Bridget was a beautiful person, so kind, patient and generous, who could see goodness in everyone. She was a life long friend to Ann since they met while working in Francis Schervier in the early 60s. They used to love reminiscing about the good old days. She will be sadly missed. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam. (May she rest in peace).

Mrs. Dowling was so sweet and kind anytime I had the pleasure of being in her company. I know she's resting in heaven now with Kathleen and still watching over her loved ones. Rest in peace 💜🙏☘🇺🇲🇮🇪

Mama was a true angel on this earth whose love was felt by all, even by her grandchild’s swear word saying best friend. There is not a single memory of a volleyball game or slumber party at the Dowling home that doesn’t include Mama (or Papa!). Our fierce cheerleaders , they would come to every game and even bring Bridgey and I a “hammy sammy” and some gatorades to share. It felt as though my own grandmother was cheering me on from the stands, or giving a tap on the shoulder when I said a bad word (sorry for making you blush, Mama!). Mama, I am not only blessed to have witnessed the love you have for Bridget, Eileen, Maureen & the rest of the Dowling clan, but to have felt it myself. Your kind and gentle soul has left a mark on many and your legacy of love and kindness will live on through those who had the privilege of knowing you.

All our love to Bridget, Eileen, Maureen and the rest of the Dowling clan. We love you.

My mother in law was a loving, kind and gentle soul. Never harsh or interfering. She let everyone live their own life. She enjoyed the simple pleasures in life…trips to Ireland, daily mass, hair curlers, Macy’s, Stew Leonard’s and a good pair of sneakers. Who really needs anything more? She loved her husband, her siblings, her children, her nieces and nephews but most of all her grandchildren. She was “Mama” to them all and they each have their own found memories of her, like lollipops for breakfast & McDonalds after a day out in the park (even Murphy got a burger from Poppa from time to time). I hope she is proud of the legacy she left behind. I am grateful she was a part of my life. She will be truly missed 💙.

Mama, even though you are no longer with us, you still live on in our hearts and in our minds. We will always love you. May you finally know a world without pain.

My dearest sweet angel Mama,
Words cannot express how empty I feel inside. I miss you so much already my heart hurts. I cannot imagine life without you. I know you are in heaven, reunited with your parents, brothers, and friends, and looking down on me and our family. You made an everlasting impact on so many lives. I hope to be half the person you are. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you did for me, Lee and mom, and for loving me unconditionally. You are and will always be my best friend and most favorite person. I love you to the moon and back mama. I cannot wait until we are reunited one day. Until then, rest in the sweetest peace my beautiful, loving, guardian angel.

I feel so blessed to have known Mama and to have felt her love. I know she and Nina are up in heaven gossiping about Ireland and having a cup of tea. May the memories you have carry you through the darkest days.

Thinking of you Bridget, Eileen, Maureen, Papa, and all of Mama’s many family members!

Love, Kathleen Glatthaar & Joseph Lozano
