The front page of the New York Times online featured an interview with Nobel laureate Dr. Paul Greengard by journalist Gina Kolata on his recent breakthrough Alzheimer’s research finding.  In the article, Kolata also interviewed Dr. Paul Aisen from the University of California, San Diego, Dr. Rudolph Tanzi, from Harvard Medical School, and Dr. Sangram S. Sisodia, from the University of Chicago, in “Finding Suggests New Target for Alzheimer’s Drugs”, asking how this research will impact future Alzheimer’s treatment. August 8, 2010, WPIX, Channel 11 – Marvin Scott interviews Dr. Barry Reisberg discussing Alzheimer’s disease and subjective cognitive impairment on “News Closeup”. Marvin Scott ^[3] is the recipient of seven prestigious Emmy awards for journalistic achievement.

Dr. Paul Greengard used his Nobel Prize honorarium to fund the Pearl Meister Greengard Prize, an award for women scientists named in honor of Greengard's mother, Pearl Meister Greengard, who died giving birth to him. The award is to combat discrimination against women in science, since, as Greengard observed, "Women are not yet receiving awards and honors at a level commensurate with their achievements."

When Carol Greider ^[4], won the 2009 Nobel Prize in science, Paul Greengard felt like a proud father. ‘This is explicitly one of our goals, to help women win the Nobel Prize and I never dreamed it would come so soon,’ Greengard said.”

June 22, 2010: Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation announces the launching of an online fundraiser “It’s in Your Hands” campaign. This campaign is created in response to these exciting new advances at the Fisher Center lab. It will fund the work of the Fisher Center laboratory in their search to find these inhibitors which may lead to an effective treatment of Alzheimer’s.

The campaign, “It’s in Your Hands”, will run through September 1 with 100% of the money raised going directly to support this new research. To join in this campaign, supporters should go to the website: www.ALZinfo.org/team ^[5]. Facebook and MySpace users will also be able to add donation badges to their profiles.
